Master Bedroom Vastu: Best Direction for the Bedroom and for Sleeping
Vastu recommends the south-west corner for the master bedroom and sleeping with the head towards the south or east. Here are the guidelines, and the practical points that make a bedroom comfortable.

After the kitchen and the pooja room, the master bedroom is the room families most often ask about. Vastu has guidance both for where the room goes and for how the bed is placed.
Where the master bedroom should be
The south-west corner of the house, called the Nairutya Moola, is the position Vastu recommends for the master bedroom. It is associated with stability and is meant for the head of the family.
- Master bedroom: south-west.
- Children’s and guest bedrooms: west, north-west or east.
- Avoid: the master bedroom in the north-east or south-east corner.
Which direction to sleep in
- Head towards the south: the direction most recommended.
- Head towards the east: also considered good, especially for students.
- Head towards the north: the direction Vastu advises against.

Bed, wardrobe and mirror
- Place the bed against the south or west wall, with space to walk on both sides.
- Keep wardrobes on the south or west wall.
- Avoid a mirror directly facing the bed.
The practical side
In Chennai’s climate the bedroom also needs cross ventilation, protection from the hot western sun, and an attached bathroom that does not open towards the bed. Built-in wardrobes with loft storage, like the ones in this home, keep the floor clear. We plan the bed and wardrobe positions on a furnished layout before construction, so you know everything fits.
